A Special Upgrade: Introducing the Parrot Aviary 2.0
Something extraordinary is happening at Alas Animal Sanctuary as we unveil the revamped Parrot Aviary 2.0. With four lovable parrots—Tikico, Miley, Mia, and Siren—their world just got a whole lot bigger and a whole lot better! The existing model, which was a lovely 20x20-foot structure already packed with amenities, has nearly doubled in size to provide even greater comfort and activity for our feathery friends.
In 'We Rebuilt Our Rescued Parrot's Enclosure', the team reveals exciting updates and important insights about parrot welfare, prompting a deeper examination of their extraordinary journeys.
Why the New Space Matters
In the original aviary, these charismatic creatures enjoyed air conditioning, misters, and ample toys to keep them entertained. However, the team at Alas recognized the need for more space, so they took the initiative to enhance the environment with additional features. The upgraded aviary has been strategically divided into areas for larger parrots, like the Macaws, and smaller species. This separation isn’t just about space; it significantly raises the safety factor as well, especially for flight training endeavors.
Innovative Features for Health and Happiness
The new aviary boasts truly innovative features, including an impressive rain shower for the Macaws, allowing them to bathe on their own terms. Unlike typical birds, macaws prefer to regulate their own bathing and have been provided with a state-of-the-art, easily maintained water dish.
Our team added a variety of plants such as banana trees and bamboo, enriching the space not just aesthetically, but enhancing the parrots’ well-being as well. Bamboo not only grows tall, providing shade and barriers but is sustainably managed on-site, ensuring that it will thrive without causing disruption.
Reinforcing the Animal-Care Commitment
This project showcases the dedication of our animal care staff. By working together with contractors, they’ve transformed the aviary into a paradise where parrots can thrive. They also made thoughtful choices about materials, opting for durable, non-toxic options to protect the birds from wear and tear. Our dedicated staff's hard work and commitment to improving conditions were made possible through generous community support and donations.
The Journey of Our Rescued Parrots
But what’s even more heartwarming is the journey of our parrots themselves. These beautiful birds, often caught in the perilous cycle of the pet trade, have experienced profound transformations since their rescue. Tikico, a blue-and-gold macaw, and Miley, a Catalina macaw, were surrendered due to the challenges of proper care. Meanwhile, Mia, a Congo African gray, and Siren, a blue-fronted Amazon, also came from backgrounds where they were outgrown by their human companions. These birds, worthy of a long-term commitment, have found sanctuary at Alas, where they can finally enjoy their lives safely.
Community Involvement and Future Adventures
The enhancement of the aviary is a shining testament to the power of community involvement. It highlights the impact that donors and animal advocates have across social media platforms and streaming channels. By tuning in, supporting, and even donating, enthusiasts have facilitated an enriched atmosphere for birds, giving them the quality of life they deserve.
Every Little Action Counts: Making a Difference
Each one of us can contribute to these rehabilitation and educational initiatives, whether through direct donation or simply by spreading awareness about the needs of pet birds. Sharing stories of beloved parrots and their rich personalities fosters greater empathy throughout our communities.
